Design Process

Assignment is time. Time is Assignment.

I always want to convert some interesting experiences in my real life. It also gives me a lot of motivation through the process of creating these images. Since I have entered the DT program, my biggest feeling is, busy. Every evening, every weekend is filled with great amounts of real-time updated assignments. Thus, the time I felt is divided by these assignments. Every day I try to get more progress done before I go to bed, which also makes me physically tired, especially since my eyes have been glued to the computer all day. This daily experience inspires me to sketch this Crazy Assignments Eye!

I corresponded the value of time to the numbers of blood filaments generated. Hours, minutes, and seconds match different lengths and colors. To achieve a more vivid effect, I added a random function to multiple customized variables. And I lowered the frame rate for a glitching look. Also, the eyeball can follow the mouse, and the highlights can be generated by mousePressed.

In addition, I add a crazy "assignments" background. As for the if/else function, the “ASSIGNMENTS!” in the back will switch to “DEADLINE!” when it is the actual due of this assignment!

PS: The other two drafts which abandoned.

The other two sets are based on another topic, growth. I have studied bio-design back into my undergrad research. So what my understanding of time is also a measure of life growth. I had planned to illustrate a single-celled organism or a pattern of Voronoi. But after I looked up some libraries created by others, I realized that the tool I wanted to apply was beyond my mathematical understanding. So I hope to come back to this idea after a more in-depth study on these algorithms.

Reflection

Sometimes facing stress head-on is the best way to release it. Just like this big assignments eyeball, I am happy with the result I created here. Actually, I am getting used to this rhythm. These practices also trigger my motivation for reaching further studies!
